had a good session on the square today. wasted a couple of hours on the float before switching to a small groundbait feeder with 2 red maggots, and getting a bream a chuck for three hours. all the fish were around 12" or 8oz size.

just want to clear something up here. you say that you wasted a few hours on the wag. did you catch much on it. it sounds like it proved pretty fruitless. if this is right then i suppose it goes against all the statements made by anglers that are all for the removal of more silver fish this winter that this water is rife with small roach. surely if the claims are true that this water holds such a big head of roach then why did the waggler prove to be a waste of time. i think the match and pleasure results are also going to reflect this. hopefully common sense will prevail and the club will reconsider the removal of more small roach from the water which evidently are not there in the first place. i am of the opinion that this netting is going to be a drain on club funds. ok i understand the clubs theory (though i do not agree with it) of netting this water to crop the fish and if it is successful it will be cheaper to crop them than buy in fish to put in to other waters. the big problem comes when the fish arnt there in the first place to crop. maybe i am better off giving up on this arguement and carry on banging my head against that brick wall again.

dan, when i say i wasted a couple of hours, i fished close in with a centrepin feeding sparingly. changing to the feeder and fishing further out did the trick. there were lots of small fish as well as the skimmers. if i didn't get a bite within 2 mins then a skimmer got to the bait. i think a waggler fished further out would have been as good if i had been set up for it and maybe balled it in at the start. a few of the pleasure/match anglers ahve commented that the average size of the silvers is rising. none of the bream i caught were small enough to remove as well.
