I was informed by a friend who was running on the towpath of the tennant at Gillards today, that the area was sealed off by the Environment Agency and Welsh Water and they were collecting water samples, after a breach in a sewage pipe resulting in raw sewage flowing into the canal. If this is a major spill, I hope the club seeks compensation from Welsh Water in the form of restocking and the clearing up of the spill. Such a shame as I was told that the canal was showing promising signs of improvement after years of decline. Thought I should warn members to stay clear from the area as no one wants raw sewage on their tackle and hands!

I can 70 percent day that the only welsh water lines running in that area are water mains. The foul water system runs into Neath abbey. Hopefully my knowledge is proved correct.

This was reported to me yesterday afternoon and went straight down there. Was no sign of anyone or any smell of sewage. There was a colour in the water but I saw boats on there in the morning so hense the colour. There was also silt dumped on the tow path near gillard where they continue the work on the canal.
