Whats happening with the second pond, 8000 unwanted fish gone in, and I hear they are draining it on monday to start work, (which will take how long), season ends in march and you cant fish it untill the end of june.......... Is it worth being a member, square is too much of a walk for the day, 1st pond has no carp, and I hear that theres not much in the canal nowdays, Just makes you think is it worth paying for a membership?

8000 fish for free, put into a lake that hasnt been stocked with fish for at least 20 years bar the stocking of carp it recieved last winter. i say at least 20 years as im 26 and i cannot recall or have ever heard of this water ever being stocked. there fore i do not class these fish as unwanted!!
the next point you make is about the lake being drained on monday. weather depending work should start on monday, yes the water will be drained. however, more pegs will be created, the bay by the inlet will be desilted and banks repaired, a silt trap put in place, islands and reed beds created.
i can understand your frustration at not being able to fish the water but what do u want, the pond left as it is or work done on it to improve the facilitys for anglers. a compromise has to be made here.
as far as the close season goes this was originally put in place to benefit wildfowl. however, the club has decided to carry on with the tradition of having a closed season as the fish are as old as 40 years, possibly more. giving them a rest for 4 months should ensure these fish are less likely to expire soon
as for the square being a long walk just for the day. there is a day syndicate which you could join which would allow u to drive right up to the lake.
just to let u know there is 5 carp in the 1st pond to my knowledge as well as crucians. there is also a reasonable head of fish in the canal along with tench and carp. in my opinion by joining the club u have the reasurance that things are not stagnant and waters being improve and stocked. the club is also in the process of putting together a 6 year plan on how to improve further on the waters that it controls

I just think that they filld the first with samll fish for match fishers, why not have that a a specimein lake and thats 6 months off my membership more or less, got to work out if its worth it.
Probally be getting my brynmill membership next year first as it has no syndacites, first come first served sort of thing, maybee the club needs to look at this on the square, or make it more friendly for carp anglers?
This is a well established club that seems to only have 1 pond for carp anglers but it costs you a arm and a leg to be able to fish overnight on the square then they fill the only other tidy carp pond with ....well basically not carp
I know they were free, so why not put a few of them in the 1st pond and the rest in the canal and leave the 2nd pond for the serious day angler who cant afford to go on the syndacite, I am sure that there will be others who feel the way I do.

i will try and answer all the points u have made
the first pond was designed to be a community fishery with all ability access. this water would allow familys to enjoy fishing, it is used for angling coaching where we try and encourage new people in to the sport and offer advice on how anglers can better their skills. it was not designed for match fishing.
this is classed as skewens specimen water. last year saw the club remove a very large amount of the silvers from this water in a bid to try and get the carp to put more weight on. laughable as roach and rudd have a different diet to carp. this has really hit match anglers as this is the water we used to use. i can sympathise with you about the walk but it can be worth the walk as there are some cracking fish in this water. back when i was fishing for carp i think i caught more fish and bigger than when i joined the syndicate and bivvied up
the gnoll is not getting stuffed with silvers. last year saw a stocking of carp up to 17lb and the club is also looking at a stocking next year of fish that will be upper doubles
it was asked if the fish could go in the canal however, the environment agency insisted they had to go into the 2nd pond.
£25 for 3 lakes and 2 canals. absolute bargain. the aim of the club is try and keep everyone happy however this isnt always possible. look at all the silver fish anglers that have lost a water just to satisfy a handfull of anglers. the club is a none profit making club so u can be assured every penny will be put back into the waters

i'd like to add a bit to dans posts, firstly, the second pond is not being drained, just lowered to allow work on the dam end.
secondly, as dan has said, the club asked for the fish to be put in the canals, but were turned down by the EA.
tghe square pond has only held at most three matches a year so match anglers have not "been hit hard". the match weights have Always been low on this water with double figure bags unusual.
as for removing the silvers to allow the carp to gow on, it was done to allow ALL the fish to attainbetter weights. we would have removed small carp as well if we could have got them health checked.
also as dan said value for money? certainly. costing an arm and a leg to night fish? try joining any other syndicate for £30!!

Thats what I mean, you pay £30 for membership the you have to pay again to have the privallige to fish overnight, other clubs dont charge for that, you just pay for your membership

for me, paying that fee is well worth it. when you look at the work the guys have done this year on the square in there own time is imense. we all do our bit to keep it clean over there. Litter picking etc. this will be my third year on the syndicate as i was lucky enough to get on. £55 a year is more than reasonable for the quality of the fish in the pond and the upkeep of it. plus all the other choices of waters to fish and the advantage of driving in. The only thing i would like to see is more attention given to the canal to shift the weed as it was a nightmare this last summer since the pike have gone in.

i think u might be missing the point. it is a syndicate so the numbers are limited, so there is less chance your favourite peg will be taken when you get there, u have the satisfaction of knowing all the people on the syndicate are vetted before letting them on. so you know idiots wont be turning up there with their 24 cans of bow and argos tents with cannabis smoke dillowing from it so you can enjoy a peaceful nights sleep in a clean and tidy peg.
